Crescent manhandles OCA, 56-22
Tigers improve to 2-1 heading into rivalry game with Cashion
For the second time in three games, Crescent dominated the line of scrimmage against its foe.
Coincidentally, the Tigers got their second win… in three games.
The Tigers ran for 460 yards and had two runners eclipse the century mark Friday in their 56-22 win against Oklahoma Christian Academy in Edmond.
The victory upped Crescent’s mark to 2-1 heading into this week’s “War on 74” tussle with rival Cash-ion.
While racking up the yards on offense, Crescent’s run defense was also quite stingy.
While OCA did get 249 passing yards from S’mauri Abram, the Eagles only ran for 79 yards on 26 attempts.
“We did (dominate the line of scrimmage),” Crescent coach J.L. Fisher said. “But in fairness, they were also short-handed.”
Regardless, youthful Crescent overpowered the Eagles as Dominic Descher ran for 265 yards and three touchdowns while Hunter Wilmoth added 113 yards and two scores.
That duo combined to give Crescent an 18-0 lead after one quarter as Descher had a 2-yard score and Wilmoth TDs on runs of 14 and 2 yards.
After OCA answered on Abram’s first of three TD scores in the game, Crescent scored 31 consecutive points to take command.
Wilmoth recovered a fumble in the end zone for one score while Descher pushed it in from 4 and 2 yards.
Tayon Johnson and Luke Descher also had scoring runs for the Tigers, who averaged 7.3 yards per rush as a team.
Descher averaged 7.8 yards on his 34 carries and Wilmoth 9.4 on 12 attempts.
Cade Watkins was 5 of 8 passing for 54 yards. Trent Fisher caught two of those passes for 25 yards.
Fisher also led the team on defense as he racked up 11 tackles, including 4.5 sacks. He had six tackles for a loss overall.
Reid Hopson added seven tackles.
Descher and Wilmoth also did their part on defense. Descher had four tackles and Wilmoth two, but both also intercepted a pass.
Crescent, which beat Woodland 37-14 in Week 0 and led ninth-ranked Morrison at halftime last week before losing, is also 1-0 in District A-3.
OCA fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the district.
The Tigers host Cashion Friday. The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in Class A.
Cashion enters this week’s game with a 2-0 record.
The Wildcats were off last week. They were originally slated to play Northeast in a district game, but Oklahoma City Public Schools closed down that district after last school year as part of a consolidation project.
Cashion originally scheduled Casady in Week 2, but a miscommunication between the two schools (Casady is not in the OSSAA) didn’t allow their calendars to align, meaning Casady had double-booked games that week.
