Cimarron trails blaze out against Dover
What was supposed to be a measuring stick game turned into a measured throttling.
Dover won for the third straight time Saturday night as it went on the road to beat Cimarron 63-28.
The Blazers entered the game 3-0 under new coach Reggie Island, were averaging nearly 96 points a game and beat their previous foes by an average of 50 points apiece.
But the home team had just three fields goals, 10 points and trailed Dover by 23 at halftime.
“We were able to force some of their better players into tough shots and we controlled the boards pretty well,” said Dover coach Jared Reese.
“And I think we can be a pretty tough team to beat once we get the lead.”
Dover did that from the start as it got up 17-5 in the first quarter before pushing it to 33-10 at halftime.
Jonah Pendergraft and Carter Kitchens combined for 20 points in those first two quarters.
The Longhorns made sure to put the game away in the third.
Pendergraft and Brennan Fletcher scored six points apiece while Casen Buck and Lucas Conrady both buried 3-pointers as part of a 21-9 Dover run.
Pendergraft ended his night with 24 points as Dover improved to 3-1.
Kitchens and Fletcher scored eight apiece while Buck finished with seven.
Cimarron, which had just nine field goals in the game, was led by Avery Butler’s 10 points.
B&B lead Dover to big victory
Rylee Buck and Kynli Boeckman scored 16 points apiece Saturday as Dover ended Cimarron’s twogame win streak.
The Lady Longhorns got their own second straight win as they beat the Lady Blazers 60-25 on the road.
Dover dominated the first half as it got out to a 21-6 lead, then extended it with a 15-4 run in the second quarter.
Boeckman and Buck did their parts.
Both players knocked down two 3-pointers and scored eight points in the first quarter.
Both also scored four points in the second frame.
Cimarron had no answer as the Lady Blazers managed only two first-half field goals.
They warmed up with five second-half 3-pointers, but eight different Lady Longhorns scored in the final two quarters as they continued to build their lead.
Joining Buck and Boeckman in double figures was senior Ashley Gamez.
She scored seven of her 10 points in the first half.
Dover is now 2-2 on the season.
