THE CHASE WAS ON
Davis’ career night sparks KHS to victory over pesky Chickasha
It appears nothing will come easy for the Kingfisher boys basketball team.
The Jackets had to overcome an early deficit against Chickasha before pulling away late for a 49- 34 home win on Tuesday.
The upstart Chicks got off to a hot start and led 11-3 midway through the first quarter.
Kingfisher’s defense settled in as the Chicks didn’t score again for almost an entire quarter.
However, it took Kingfisher’s offense a while to kick in.
The Jackets had just five first-quarter points, but started to pick up steam about midway through the second quarter.
It came largely from senior Chase Davis, who got his first career start.
He responded with two 3-pointers and 10 points in the second quarter as he helped the Jackets take a 22-20 halftime lead.
The Jackets upped their lead to seven points after three quarters, then held the Chicks to just four points in the last frame.
Chickasha shot better overall (42.4 percent compared to 42.1 for KHS).
However, the Jackets made six 3-pointers compared to two for the Chicks and also made seven more free throws.
Four of Kingfisher’s treys came from Davis, who ended with a career-high 23 points.
Xavier Ridenour added nine points and Caden Kitchens eight.
The Chicks, who fell to 2-7, got 10 points from Ma’Lek Murphy.
