Cashion topples Hennessey in big TRC matchup
Wildcats get 2nd victory of season over Eagles in showdown between top-10 2A foes
Cashion strengthened its grip on the Three Rivers Conference title Thursday night... and did it against another top-10 foe.
Class 2A’s fourth-ranked Wildcats played suffocating defense all night and built a big enough cushion to hold off No. 6 Hennessey 43-34 at home.
The win was the second for Cashion against the Eagles this season. The other was in the conference tournament championship in early January.
Cashion, 17-3 overall, is 4-0 in conference games with a home contest with Crescent coining early this week.
Hennessey dropped to 10-3 overall and is 4-1 in conference games.
The hosts held Hennessey to 15 first-half points and quickly turned a seven-point lead into a 15-point advantage with eight points from Vance Raney.
It grew to as many as 17 as Landon LaGasse heated up near the end of the third and to start the fourth and Hennessey was never able to get back within single digits until the game’s final minutes.
The Eagles shot just 36 percent overall, including 3 of 15 from 3-point range.
They were led by freshman Jael Torres’ 14 points and five rebounds.
Wade Vinson scored eight.
LaGasse paced Cashion with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Raney added 11 points and six boards while Jonah Jenkins chipped in nine points.

They are 4-0 in conference games.

After getting the big first-quarter lead, Cashion extended it to 35-19 by halftime and then closed out on a 13-8 run.
