Cashion puts away foe early

Alex Nabavi got Cashion’s scoring assault going on the ground.

Ben Harman finished it through the air.

Nabavi returned the opening kickoff for a score and Harman threw six touchdown passes last Friday to lift Cashion to a 44-0 victory at Elmore City-Pernell.

In earning its second shutout of the season, Cashion upped its record to 4-0 overall in the non-district contest. The Wildcats remain 2-0 in District A-3.

Elmore City entered the game with a 3-1 record, but quickly found itself trailing after Nabavi took the opening kick 82 yards.

That was the beginning of a 26-point quarter for Class A’s top-ranked Wildcats.

Harman wasted little time getting in on the act.

After Cashion’s defense stopped Elmore City on its first possession, the first offensive snap for the Wildcats resulted in a 70-yard touchdown pass to Sam Brown.

“It was a hot start for us and really just continued rolling,” Cashion coach Lynn Shackelford said.

“We had a running clock by the second quarter.”

By the end of the first quarter, Harman had added TD scores of 7 and 87 yards to T.J. Roberts.

Roberts also hauled in a 44-yard catch and score in the third quarter.

The senior caught three passes - all TDs - for 138 yards. He carried the ball once for 14 yards.

Mason Manning (37 yards) and Nabavi (52 yards) had TD receptions in the second quarter as Cashion led 38-0 at the break.

Harman ended his night 9 of 15 for 369 yards.

Cashion had only 28 offensive snaps all night.

Brown had two catches for 98 yards and Nabavi three for 96.

The defense, meanwhile, gave up little.

Elmore City ran for 104 yards on 28 carries and the Wildcats held their hosts to nine passing yards while garnering two interceptions.

Caden Harrell led the team with 10 tackles. He had one of the picks while Landon La-Gasse provided the other.

The Wildcats travel to Oklahoma Christian Academy in Edmond at 7 p.m. Friday before having a week off.
