Cashion, Kingfisher girls post strong showings
Cashion had a gold medal winner and Kingfisher five placers at last weekend’s Hub City Classic wrestling tournament in Clinton.
Alex Jerry of Cashion took home first place in the 120-pound bracket.
Jerry won her three bracket matches by fall… and all in the first period.
That included pinning Molly Hanes of Mustang in 1:39 in the gold medal bout.
Kingfisher’s Sydnie Toepfer was fourth in that weight class.
She lost her quarterfinal bout, but came back to beat Kennedy Nelson in 1:49 in the consolation semifinal before losing to Brooklynn Castle of Marlow for third place.
Mylene Jones also got fourth for Kingfisher as she scored 10 points in the 105-pound weight class.
Kingfisher’s top placers were at 115, 130 and 13540 as all three wrestlers won bronze.
Emily Warren got the honors at 115 pounds.
She went 2-2 in her round-robin matches to claim third.
Zoey Padilla was third at 130 while Mychaela Haynes did the same at 135-40.
Cashion’s Cassie Crook was second at 130 as she went 1-1 in her matches.
Roman Davis was second for Cashion at 155.
Final team standings for girls were not released.
Cashion’s wrestlers garnered 38 points. KHS had 33 points.
