Brown, McCabe sign to compete for SLU
Duo become Cashion’s first D1 track signees
Prior to Thursday, Cash-ion had never had an athlete sign to compete in track and field at the Division I level.
Now it can boast two.
CHS seniors Sam Brown and Madelyn McCabe signed National Letters of Intent to continue their track careers at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La.
The two signed during an afternoon ceremony in front of the Cashion student body in the high school gymnasium.
Also on hand were a number of teammates, coaches and family members.
McCabe is a highly sought-after standout with multiple gold medals on her resume.
She had offers from Pittsburg State in Kansas, West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and was also guaranteed a spot on the University of Iowa’s squad. Oklahoma State also offered her a partial scholarship.
Brown was a bronze medalist in the 100 meter dash at the Class 2A state meet as a junior last season.
He’ll be a sprinter for the Lions track squad.
