Boys’ OT win helps Dover secure sweep
Dover almost let a win slip away Tuesday night.
Almost. Covington-Douglas’ Ford Smith managed a three-point play off a missed free throw to give his team a one-point lead just moments after it trailed by three deep into the overtime period.
But the Longhorns got some key late free throws and a defensive stop to take home a 49-47 road win.
Dover led 46-43 with under 30 seconds to play when the Wildcats’ Derek Daugherty was sent to the line.
Daugherty made his first free throw, but missed the second.
Smith slipped into the lane, grabbed the rebound and was fouled as he scored the putback.
After his free throw made it 47-46 for the home team, Dover’s Lucas Conrady was fouled away from the ball just moments later.
Conrady sank both foul shots to reclaim the lead.
Brennan Fletcher drew a charge call on the other end and Casen Buck sealed the win with a free throw with just a few ticks remaining.
Dover got its second straight win and improved to 4-3.
Conrady led the way with 21, including making all six free throws in the overtime period.
The junior had a chance to win at the end of regu-lation, but Daugherty was able to block his jumper as time expired.
Trailing by five after a quarter, Dover tied the game by halftime.
Conrady scored eight in the second and Buck nailed a pair of 3-pointers.
It remained a tight game the rest of the way.
Daugherty scored 15 and Smith 14 for Covington-Douglas.
Buck scored 11 for the Longhorns.
Fletcher added six, including the lone field goal in the OT.
Lady Longhorns cruise Dover easily remained undefeatedTuesdaybydominating Covington-Douglas 72-67 on the road.
The Lady Longhorns led from the start and were up 28-3 by the end of the first quarter.
Rylee Buck was red-hot as she scored 13 in the quarter and 19 in the half.
The advantage was 4710 by the halftime break.
Buck scored 23 overall. The Lady Longhorns, who moved to 7-0, also got 15 points from Katelyn Harviston and 14 from Karlee Harviston.
