Basketball tournament roundup for Kingfisher County teams
Five Kingfisher County schools were taking part in tournaments beginning Thursday of last week.
Here’s how those teams fared in their opening rounds: Alva Shootout Top-seeded Kingfisher had little trouble advancing to the semifinals of the boys bracket of the Alva Shootout.
The Jackets blanked Alva JV in the second quarter as part of an 83-26 win on Thursday.
KHS played Clinton in Friday’s semifinal. Freshman Daxx Compton scored 17 points to lead 11 different Jackets who scored.
He had 13 of his points in the fourth quarter.
KHS was up 19-7 after the first quarter, then outscored the Goldbugs 20-0 in the second.
Hayes White scored all 11 of his points in the first half.
Cash Laird, Paytun Burnham and Aidan Stephens scored nine apiece as KHS improved to 3-1.
Kingfisher’s girls stayed unbeaten as they defeated Cimarron (Kan.) 63-23 in the opening round of the Alva Shootout.
The Lady Jackets, ranked sixth in Class 4A, played Class 3A’s sixthranked Alva in Friday’s semifinal.
It was a quick start for KHS as it jumped on Cimarron 23-4 in the first quarter.
Raegan Snider scored nine points in the opening frame and eventually led all scorers with 17.
Reese Roof nailed three 3-pointers as part of her 15 points while Adlee Friesen chipped in nine.
Canton Invitational The Lomega girls bounced back from their first loss of the season to beat Laverne JV 86-13 in the quarterfinal round at Canton.
The top-ranked team in Class B was set to play Class B’s 20th-ranked Canton in Friday’s semifinals. The quarterfinal matchup was over soon after tipoff as Lomega scored 37 in the first quarter and led 63-5 at halftime.
Ten Lady Raiders scored, led by Reagan Snowden’s 19 points.
Paige Wheeler added 18, 11 of them in the first quarter, and Bree Yost scored 13.
Lomega was 6-1 after the win.
The Lomega boys grabbed their third straight win as they defeated Canton 79-24 in the quarterfi nals.
They were set to play Fairview in the semifinals on Friday.
Jaxson Snowden poured in 24 points, all in the first half, to lead all scorers.
The Raiders took care of business early, scoring 29 in each of the first two quarters.
Ben Marsh added 13 points and Chase Burton 12 as Lomega improved to 4-3.
South Canadian Classic Okarche scored more than 90 points for the sixth time this season in beating Hoops for Christ 93-34 in the opening round of the tournament in Leedey.
The Warriors, ranked No. 1 in Class A, advanced to play host Leedey in Friday’s semifinal.
An avalanche of points early on allowed Okarche to coast in the second half.
The Warriors were up 32-4 after a quarter and 5812 at halftime.
Jett Mueggenborg led all scorers with 22 points.
Hunter Mueggenborg scored 16 to go with his game-high six assists.
Ethan Kirby added 14 and Court Sumrall nine.
Those two combined to shoot 7 of 13 from 3-point range as Okarche upped its season record to 7-0.
The Lady Warriors will play in Saturday’s consolation championship game.
Okarche was defeated 46-45 by Arapaho-Butler in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
They bounced back Friday morning to defeat Vici.
Okarche enters the fifthplace game with a 4-4 record.
NextEra Energy Resources Invitational
Top-seed Cashion glided into the semifinals of the tournament in Garber by downing Ringwood 48-15 Thursday in the quarterfinal of the girls bracket.
Defense again played a big factor as Ringwood didn’t hit double digits until the second half.
Cashion led 13-3 after a quarter and 27-5 at the half.
Eight different Lady Wildcats scored, led by Megan Shafer’s 14 points.
Brooke Shafer chipped in eight and Kate Nabavi seven.
Cashion improved to 4-0 and was set to play host Garber in Friday’s semifinals.
Thirteen different Cashion boys scored in their 9523 victory over Ringwood in the quarterfinals.
Anthony Wilburn and Kamden Miller scored 13 points apiece as Cashion got out to a 52-11 lead.
The Wildcats also got 12 from Parker Mitchel and 11 from Hudson Horan as they improved to 3-1.
Cashion played Ripley in Friday’s semifinals.
Washita State Bank Classic Second- seeded Hennessey boys won their second straight game as they beat Burns Flat-Dill City 74-48 in the opening round.
Burns Flat is the host site of the tournament.
The Eagles played Hobart in Friday’s semifinals.
The Lady Eagles were also in the semifinals after they defeated Fort Cobb-Broxton 41-36 in the quarterfinals.
The win was Hennessey’s first of the season.
They played Class A No. 6 Canute in the semifinals on Friday.
