Jackets move into Day 2 of regional

Kingfisher pitchers gave up just two runs in two games Thursday, but only got one win to show for it.

Still, the Jackets remained alive heading into the second day of their Class 4A regional.

Dallon Barton pitched a gem for KHS in its opener, but the Jacket bats couldn’t produce in a 2-0 loss to Madill.

Kingfisher bounced back later Thursday to avoid elimination by knocking out Douglass 11-0.

In the regional’s winner’s bracket game, top-seeded Tuttle thumped Madill 10-0.

That gave Kingfisher a rematch with Madill at 4 p.m. Friday (after press time) with the winner advancing to play Tuttle at 6:30 p.m.

The team that takes on Tuttle would need to beat the Tigers twice to claim the regional crown.

Barton and Madill’s Case Coble were locked in a scoreless pitcher’s duel before the Wildcats were finally able to bust through in the fifth.

Back-to-back one-out singles by Madill helped set up a two-run double with two outs.

Barton was able to get out of the inning without further damage, but it proved to be enough.

KHS had just four hits off Coble, two by Hunter Delozier.

Barton pitched six innings, gave up eight hits and struck out seven without walking a batter.

The Jackets got 10 hits in their run-rule win against the Trojans.

Barton, Trypp Lack and Jett Braun had two apiece.

Lack drove in three runs and scored twice.

Barton also scored twice and drove in one run while Braun had 2 RBIs.

That was more than enough for Casen Chlouber, who pitched all five innings.

The right-hander struck out nine while allowing just one hit in the contest.

Cashion, Hennessey dominate 2A districts

Cashion and Hennessey had little trouble advancing to the next round of the Class 2A playoffs.

Both teams swept bestof- three district series on Tuesday.

Hennessey hosted Watonga and sent the visiting Eagles back home with runrule losses of 11-1 and 15-0.

Cashion, which is ranked second in the class, dominated visiting Hobart 16-0 and 13-0.

The wins advance both teams to this week’s regional tournament round.

The OSSAA will announce those pairings early in the week.

Lomega run ends at Class B regional

Lomega pulled off one upset to begin its Class B regional.

It didn’t have another in the tank.

The Raiders defeated No. 11 Leedey 6-2 on Wednesday to open their regional in Kiowa.

The host Cowboys, ranked sixth in the class, then sent Lomega into the loser’s bracket with a 10-0 victory later Wednesday night.

In a rematch with Leedey on Thursday, the Bison were able to knock Lomega out of the playoffs in a 9-5 win.
