A, B basketball districts start this week
Three Kingfisher County gymnasiums will serve as main regional sites when the basketball playoffs get under way.
Kingfisher will host a Class 4A regional, Hennessey’s new Eagle Event Center will be a 3A regional site and Okarche will be the main site in a Class A regional, it was announced recently by the OSSAA.
Basketball playoffs begin this weekend for Classes A and B and the following weekend for 2A-4A.
Class B
Lomega will be the host site for the district tournament, which begins Thursday and also includes Dover.
Girls first-round games feature Dover vs. Carney at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by Lomega against Agra.
The winners will advance to the district championship at 6 p.m. Saturday while the losers willbe eliminated from the playoffs.
The boys district openers feature Dover vs. Agra at 6 p.m. Friday with the Lomega-Carney boys to follow. Winners play at 8 p.m. Saturday while the losers are eliminated.
The regional will take place the following Thursday-Saturday at Agra and the area tournament is scheduled at Stroud.
Class A
Okarche will be able to play in its home gym until the area tournament.
The Lady Warriors received a bye in the first round of district and will play the Drumright-Depew winner at 6 p.m. Saturday in the district championship.
The Okarche and Depew boys play at 8 p.m. Friday in an elimination game. The winner will play Drumright at 8 p.m. Saturday for the district championship.
Those teams will be joined by the likes of Wellston, Woodland, Hominy, Thomas, Pioneer, Ringwood, Calumet, Pond Creek-Hunter and Oklahoma Bible Academy for the regional the following week.
The area tournament will be played at the Stride Center in downtown Enid.
Class 2A
Both Hennessey and Crescent will be a part of Area I.
Crescent will travel to Watonga for a two-team district while Hennessey will host Stroud.
Crescent will play its regional games at Morrison and Fairview. Other teams in the regional will include Hooker, Fairview, Hinton, Sayre, Morrison and Luther.
Hennessey will be hosting its regional that will also include Amb er-Po casset, Dibble, Mounds, Tonkawa, Apache and Cordell.
The area tournament will be played at the Stride Center.
Cashion is in Area but won’t have a district opponent, which pushes its first playoff games to the regional.
Cashion will serve as a regional sub-site on the first day before it moves to Latta for the final two days.
Joining Cashion in the regional will be Latta, Wewoka, Calera, Colbert, Stratford and Wynnewood.
The bottom half of the area includes Silo, Walters, Minco, Healdton, Merritt, Mangum, Hobart and Frederick.
Chickasha High School will serve as the area site.
Class 4A
Like Okarche, Kingfisher gets to play on its own court until the area tournament.
The KHS teams will host Elk City in a district on the opening weekend.
Joining Kingfisher in the regional will be Woodward, Clinton, McLoud, Dickson, Weatherford and Harrah.
Enid High School’s new gym will serve as the area site.
The area’s other regional will consist of Holland Hall, Cushing, John Marshall, Harding Charter, Newcastle, Perkins-Tryon and Mannford.
The state tournament for Classes 2A-4A is tentatively scheduled March 11-13.
