ALL-STATE OF MIND
Taylor, McDowell, Beebe get OGBCA’s top honor
Three seniors added their names to the long list of Kingfisher County girls basketball players to earn All-State designation.
The Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association announced its All-State picks over the weekend.
Among those selected were Rachel McDowell of Okarche, Kaitin Taylor of Cashion and Jennifer Beebe of Kingfisher.
The OGBCA annually holds tryouts as part of its selection process, but was unable this year due to the coronavirus.
Instead, selections were made via committee vote only, much like the selection process for the Oklahoma Coaches Association.
McDowell and Taylor were named to the Small West team, which includes Classes 2A, A and B.
Beebe was named to the Middle West team, designated for Classes 3A and 4A.
McDowell was a catalyst on Okarche’s run to the Class A semifinals.
She averaged 13.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 assists as Okarche finished 27-4.
She was earlier named the Three Rivers Conference most valuable player.
Taylor was also named to the all-conference team while helping Cashion to a 19-10 record.
The Lady Wildcats reached the 2A area consolation finals.
Taylor averaged 9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.3 steals a game.
Beebe was a well-rounded force for the Lady Jackets, who also went 19-10 and were one win shy of state in Class 4A.
She averaged 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals during her senior season.
Beebe was earlier named to the Western Athletic Conference first team for KHS.
She played just one season for Kingfisher after moving from Garber where she was a two-time Skeltur Conference MVP.
Players selected for OGBCA All-State become eligible for the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State teams, which will be announced soon.
The OGBCA All-State Games are annually played the first weekend of June and are tentatively scheduled June 6. They pit players from the Small West vs. Small East, Middle West vs. Middle East and Large West vs. Large East.
Three other county players earned OGBCA honors as well.
Okarche’s Raegan Robinson and Marlo Hunt were named to the Small West’s All-Region team.
Cedar Stewart of Cashion was a Small West All-District selection.
The Oklahoman also released its own “Super 5” - which encompasses the entire state - and all-state teams for each class.
McDowell was listed all-state in Class A by the newspaper.
