8 Eagles snag all-district honors
Eight members of the Hennessey High School football team grabbed 2A-1 All-District honors this week.
Six of the honorees were named to the first team.
That includes five who were named the players of the year at their respective position.
Gunnar Holder was voted by the district coaches as the quarterback of the year.
He threw for 1,784 yards and 11 touchdowns while running for 917 yards and 12 more scores.
Voted the running back of the year was Jessin Hardin, who picked up 400 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Hunter Weber was named the tight end of the year. A new addition to the team this season, Weber snagged 36 catches, which was second on the team, for a team-high 448 yards. He scored three times.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jakob Johns was tabbed the inside linebacker of the year. Johns was second on the team with 74 tackles, which included five tackles for loss.
Named the co-defensive utility player of the year was Brandon Rodriguez who led the Eagles with 81 stops.
Voted to the second team were Kevin Trillo at safety and Braedyn Richardson at outside linebacker.
Trillo led the team with three interceptions to go with his 44 total tackles.
Richardson was in on 32 tackles and added an interception.
Also voted all-district was Gunner Carthel as co-injured athlete of the year.
Carthel was slotted as a starter on both the offensive and defensive lines.
After winning just one game last season, the Eagles went 6-5 in 2024.
They were 5-2 in District 2A-1 games, good for third place behind Stroud and Alva.
Hennessey was defeated by Davis in the first round of the 2A playoffs.
