‘Nothing to hang their heads about’

Kingfisher High School took sixth place at this year’s Class 4A state cheerleading competition.

Judges awarded KHS 242.4 points out of a possible 300 after their routine Saturday at Union High School in Tulsa.

“It wasn’t the finish we wanted, but they did a great routine,” said KHS cheer coach Carma Reagan.

“They have absolutely nothing to hang their heads about.”

Crossings Christian won the 4A title with 279.4 points, which was more than any team in any class.

Heritage Hall was the runner-up with 260.4 points. That was 10 points better than third-place Bristow.

Washington took fourth with 249.2 and Pauls Valley fifth with 246.0.

The placing was one spot better than last year for KHS, but the score was significantly better. Judges awarded Kingfisher 205.6 points in 2021.

The team was third in 2020.

Kingfisher’s state score was identical to what it earned at the regional.

“I tried to explain to them that - at regionals - we started with 20 teams and after state - we ended up as one of four public schools to place,” Reagan said. “That’s pretty good when you look at it that way.

“I’m just proud they went out and did their best knowing not a single team school, even in 6A, can beat Crossings.”

Owasso, which won Class 6A’s state title, had a score of 277.8.

Blanchard won the 5A crown with a score of 268.6.

This was the second straight 4A title for Crossings Christian. Heritage Hall was the runner-up in 5A last season.

Cashion, meanwhile, was fourth in Class 2A.

The team earned 221.2 points, which was less than two points from third-place Haworth.

Crescent won the 2A state title. (See Page 1 of this edition.)

Cashion tied for last year’s state runner-up title and was more recently third at the 2A regional.
