He graduated in 1950 and returned to Okarche prior to enlisting in the U. S. Navy in 1952. He served in the Korean War as an engineer in the machine room of the USS Magoffi n most of his four years of enlistment.
After separation from the Navy, he attended OSU Tech at Okmulgee with certification as an electrician.

He retired in 1992 and moved back to Okarche, where he was reacquainted with a friend who became the love of his life.
He married Vicki Ottis in January 1994 and they spent most of their married life in Okarche.
He loved to play golf, hunt and fish, but was somewhat more successful with golf, with one exception.
While living in Florida he caught a large sailfi sh, of which he was most proud.
He displayed it in his living room for many years until the wedding, at which time his brother, John, and friend, John Baustert, relocated it to a wall in the garage.
It finally was displayed in the screened porch he added to the house in 2002. Later he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and has spent the last three-and-a-half years at the Veterans Center in Norman, where he died on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019.
