Leta Mae Stitt
Leta Mae (Buckner) Stitt was born Sept. 3, 1926, to John and Francis (Hawkins) Buckner in Dover.
She passed away Saturday, March 7, in her home west of Dover at the age of 93.
Leta Mae was the oldest of 10 siblings.
She grew up in Dover and graduated from Dover School in 1945.
She married Bobby Stitt on Oct. 21, 1946.
They had 4 sons: Jimmy, Jerry, Jerald and Bobby Jack (Jacky), 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Leta Mae and Bobby were married for 53 years before Bobby passed away in 1999.
They ran a dairy farm for many years, later switching over to a cow and calf operation.
Farming was her way of life. Even up until her passing, she was still the proud owner of two cows and two calves.
She enjoyed going to basketball games with her sister Elva Gill, and having coffee with her lady friends.
She loved family gatherings and cooking. She was known for her homemade chicken and noodles.
She loved all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Stitt and wife Margo of Dover, Jerry Stitt and wife Recea of Kingfisher and Bobby Jack (Jacky) Stitt and wife Shirley of Kingfisher; one sister, Elva Gill of Loyal; two brothers, Pete Buckner and wife Marilyn of Hennessey and Dale Buckner of Enid.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Jerald Stitt; one daughter-in-law, Thora Stitt; two great-granddaughters, Lynsy Stitt and Ashlyn Vaughn; one sister, Sally Hixon; five brothers, Jack Buckner, infant brother Henry Leon Buckner, infant twins Darrel and Carrol Buckner and Bobby Joe Buckner; two brothers-in-law, Sunny Hixon and Donnie Gill; two sisters-in-law, Lajean Buckner and Nancy Buckner.
Leta Mae was a member of the Dover Christian Church where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 12, with Jimmy Berkenbile officiating.
Services are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
