Kermit Kuelzer
Kermit Charles Kuelzer, 93, of Kingfisher, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, in his home.
Kermit was born Feb. 26, 1930, at the family home in the Big Four community to Henry William and Lula Mae (Stanfill) Kuelzer.
He graduated from Big Four School.
Kermit married Christine Ann Mueggenborg July 20, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Okarche. Of this union, there were two daughters, Mary and Carol.
Kermit worked at Gooden’s Hardware and their John Deere Parts Department. He later went to work for Pioneer Telephone, retiring in 1995 after 33 years.
He was a lifelong farmer and rancher on the Kuelzer Centennial Farm, although Kermit and Christine moved from the farm to Kingfisher in 1987.
Kermit was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and belonged to Knights of Columbus, Rotary, Kingfisher Elks Lodge and enjoyed participating in Pioneer Telephone’s “Call Santa Claus” night.
He had served leadership positions with Kingfisher Regional Hospital, Chisholm Trail Museum, Kingfisher County 4-H adult leader and Kingfisher Rotary.
Kermit enjoyed traveling, Pitch Club, woodworking, being a ham radio operator and hosting several foreign exchange students.
You would find Kermit lending a hand at local civic events like cooking calf fries at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds and making cotton candy at the Chisholm Trail Museum’s Chuck Wagon Gatherings.
Kermit is survived by his wife Christine; daughters Mary Chamberlain and husband John of Cypress, Texas, and Carol Wilczek and husband Edward of Kingfisher; grandchildren Brad Chamberlain and partner Keith Sartin, Kelli Chamberlain Makohon and husband Michael, Justin Wilczek and wife Katie, Blake Wilczek and wife Alicia and Jessica Wilczek; great-grandchildren Molly and Nolan Makohon and Claire and Declan Wilczek; his only sibling, Edward Kuelzer; sister-in-law Caroline Chambers and husband Gordon; brother-in-law Harold Mueggenborg and wife Theresa; and beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-inlaw Doris Kuelzer and Rita Mueggenborg, and brothers- in-law Donald Mueggenborg and Tom Barrett.
Visitation for Kermit will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Sanders Funeral Service Chapel.
Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with burial following at Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
