Jim D. Smith
Jim D. Smith, D.D.S., passed peacefully into the arms of our loving Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at the age of 68.
He was Jan. 1952, as the firstborn of Orval and Doris Smith of Kingfisher .
Jim graduated from Kingfisher High School and went on to get his pre-dentistry degree at Oklahoma State University in 1970. He was accepted to Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas, at the end of his junior year at OSU.
Jim married Vicki Voskuhl in 1973.
After graduation in 1976, he joined the practice of Dr. Don S. Robison until his retirement in 2015, regrettably due to his health.
Jim struggled with severe Crohn’s disease for most of his life.
He was first diagnosed with it while in dental school in 1974. He had multiple surgeries to help alleviate some of his issues, but his life was full of ups and downs with his health.
He has two sons, Jeff and Kevin. He loved attending and being involved in their sports activities.
He really enjoyed coaching both boys’ soccer teams throughout the years. Regardless of his poor health, he was dedicated to attend and enjoy every event that he could.
After Jim’s retirement in 2015, he and Vicki moved to Edmond to be closer to their granddaughters.
There was not a school event or game that he would miss due to his health. He cherished watching them grow up.
He was so proud of his sons for raising their daughters in the Christian faith.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Orval Smith.
Jim is survived by his wife, Vicki, of Edmond; his son, Jeff and wife Jamey and daughters Kaitlyn, Kamryn and Kenzi of Edmond; son Kevin of Edmond and daughter Kylie.
He is also survived by his mother Doris Smith of Kingfisher; sister Charlotte and husband Ross Elmore of Kansas City; brother Dr. John Smith and wife Cindy of Hennessey; sister Kimberly Smith of Kingfisher; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at LifeWay Church in Kingfisher under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
