Irvin Roberts
Irvin Darrel Roberts, 92, of Dover, passed away March 15, 2021, surrounded by family.
A private family funeral was held Thursday, March 18, at Dover Christian Church officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile.
Public gravesite burial followed at Kingfisher Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey. Irvin was born on the family homestead, raised his family and lived his life there. He was proud to see his farm inducted as an Oklahoma Centennial Farm in June 2020.
He was born Nov. 15, 1928, to Charles Austin and Alta Odessa (Baker) Roberts. Charles Husted was fondly known as “Dad” when Alta remarried after the death of Charles Roberts.
Irvin was raised with the strong presence and influence of his grandparents, Frank and Cora Roberts.
During his high school days, he worked with his grandfather on the farm.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1946.
He married the love of his life, Dona Ogle, on April 14, 1948, in Loyal.
Irvin learned early in life, the value of hard work, thrift and patience. Patience that would be greatly needed when raising four daughters.
He loved Dona with all his heart, and was devoted to her. Irvin lost Dona to Alzheimer’s in 2016 after 68 years of marriage.
Irvin most loved watching westerns, listening to bluegrass and country music, trips to Branson, and in his younger years playing pitch, dominos, and being an avid member of the Oklahoma CB Radio Club.
He and Dona were strong believers in education and he served on the Dover school board for 10 years and was a member of the Dover Education Foundation, in which he was honored as a Longhorn Leader in 2018. He was a member of the Dover Christian Church, India Shrine Temple, 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, perpetual member of Coronado Masonic Lodge 56, Kingfisher Eastern Star Chapter 42.
He will always be remembered by family and close friends for his dedication, tenacity, and sense of humor.
He is survived by three daughters, Faye (James) O’Bryant of Cashion, Cathie Chambers of Licking, Mo., Patricia (Jeremy) Stinnett of Yukon; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) McVicker, Charles (Dana) Terrell, Derek (January) Grape, Melanie (Utah) Elliott, Marianne (Arlan) Russell, Melissa (Vernon) Brake, Joe (Heather) Rushing; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Lynn Ogle of Loyal; one cousin, Norma Clark of Chandler, and several nieces and nephews.
Irvin was preceded in death by his wife, Dona; his eldest daughter, Dr. Virginia Roberts-Webb; his parents; his grandparents; two sisters, Velda June Ogle and Tharon Mae Husted, and many of his extended Ogle family.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Dover Christian Church, Dover Education Foundation, or Shriners Hospital, with Cordry-Gritz funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
