Flora ‘Sis’ Deatherage
Flora Nell Reid Deatherage, 82, resident of Altus, passed away July 22, 2021, at her home.
Flora was born on Christmas Eve 1938 to John and Helen Reid of Altus.
She was raised on the family farm north of Altus, homesteaded by her great-grandparents in 1888.
She graduated from Altus High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Ratcliff.
The couple was blessed with four sons within seven years.
Flora worked as a bookkeeper and in real estate sales. In 1964, she and her young family relocated to Tunnel Hill, Ga., where she was an active member of the First Baptist Church.
She resided there until Jerry’s tragic death in an airplane crash near Hollis in 1969. Flora and her family moved to and from Georgia several times over the years and finally returned to Altus in 2000, where she would remain until her passing.
She seemed to know absolutely everyone and was well-loved by her friends and family.
She had always been called “Sis” due to being raised with four brothers and the nickname was adopted by her nieces and nephews who called her “Aunt Sis.”
Flora enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb. She also loved decorating her home and singing with her extremely beautiful voice.
Flora was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Reid; her husband, Jerry Ratcliff; son, Steven Reid Ratcliff; two brothers, Ross Reid and Forrest Reid; and one sister, Joyce Reid.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Brett Ratcliff, Bruce Ratcliff and Larry Ratcliff, all of Altus; two brothers, Gary Reid of Kingfisher and Ken Reid of Oklahoma City; several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her smile will be missed by all who knew her.
