Douglas ‘Doug’ Fisher
Douglas “Doug” Kent Fisher, 72, was ushered into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Jan. 16, 2019, after valiantly battling heart disease. His faith in God, love for his family, and determination to travel with his RV friends helped him persevere and have peace while enduring his illness.
Doug was born in Kingfisher, on Feb. 22, 1946, to loving parents, Gilbert and Alice Hale Fisher, a local farmer and homemaker.
Doug was raised on the family farm 11 miles northwest of Kingfisher, where his family farmed wheat, raised cattle and had dairy cows along with other livestock.
The family was part of the Park Community Church, and later attended the First United Methodist Church of Kingfisher.
While in high school, Doug was active in FFA, showing sheep and steers, judging livestock, and holding chapter offices. He earned the State Farmer, American Farmer, and Honorary State FFA Degree, and was a National FFA Alumni life member.
He graduated from KHS in 1964 and continued his education at Oklahoma State University, where he was on the collegiate livestock judging team and lived and worked at the university’s sheep barn. He graduated from OSU in 1969 with a bachelor of science in agriculture.
While at OSU, Doug met the love of his life, Linda Kay Huggins, of Fort Gibson. They married on Aug. 16, 1969. Their first home was in Woodward, where Doug taught vocational agriculture for three years and they welcomed their first daughter, Darla Lyn.
They moved to the Kingfisher area in 1972 when Doug became the Lomega vo-ag teacher.
At this time, they became members of the First Baptist Church of Kingfisher.
In 1976, they welcomed their second daughter, Nicole Dru, and Doug began working for the Kingfisher Cooperative Elevator. It was his pleasure to serve local farmers for 40 years in various positions, retiring from CHS in July 2016.
Doug was a member of the Oklahoma Fertilizer & Chemical and Oklahoma Grain & Feed Associations.
Doug exemplified patience, kindness, joy, and loyalty. His light-hearted spirit and positive outlook were an encouragement to those around him. He was a hard worker, but knew how to enjoy life also. He loved to play pitch with special friends or any game.
He took pleasure in going to the lake with family and friends and enjoyed traveling to different parts of the country and world.
He especially treasured riding his Harley with Linda and driving his RV to the next adventure mapped out by he and his friends.
Doug is missed and survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Linda; his daughters and sons-in-law, Darla and Brent Vander Pol, and Nicole and Ben Shaddox; his grandchildren that call him Papa D, Nate Vander Pol, and Cade, Lydia, and Ava Shaddox; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Barbara Fisher, and Greg and Deone Fisher; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and R.D. Kramer.
Each person who was a part of Doug’s life held a special place in his heart.
A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Kingfisher at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
The family invites you to bring a written note of a special memory or reflection you have of Doug.
