Members of Kingfisher American Legion Post 5 have long talked about wanting a taller flag pole for the Kingfisher High School football field. “The Post donated the original pole, but decided it is just not `grand’ enough for our field or our nation’s flag,” according to Dr. A.J. Johnson. So, after much discussion and after consulting with Superintendent of Schools Jason Stemberger, the Post offered to pay half the cost of a new, 40-foot flag pole. Stemberger agreed and the pole was ordered. It is made from fiberglass so it’s lighter than the previous one and is hinged at the base so maintenance is easy. Also, because it is non-conductive, it will not attract lightning. The Post also donated an 8-foot by 12-foot United States flag for the pole. The remaining two poles will be used for the Oklahoma flag and the school flag. They were on display during last week’s playoff game against Lone Grove.
