It may look like a bounce house has been installed at the in-progress Newfield Community Park, but the inflated, doorless cylinder is actually the form around which the concrete $83,632 band shell will be constructed. The same contractor, South Industries, utilized the same process on a much larger scale to construct Hennessey Public School’s Eagle Event Center (aka “The Dome”). The band shell is a continuation of work at the 35-acre park and festival grounds that utilizes property cleared in a FEMA-funded buyout of flood-impacted structures west of Main Street. Once completed, the band shell will serve as a venue for live music performances, as well as a location for weddings and other private events. Kingfisher city commissioners reviewed the progress of the project at their meeting last week. See related story in a coming issue. [TIMES-FREE PRESS Staff Photo]
