Three coaches with local ties were among the 10 people inducted into the hall of fame. They included the late Ray West, former Okarche boys basketball coach, who was represented at the banquet (top photo) by daughters, from left, Rayla Atkinson, Alexandria West and Amber Schieber; widow Lanell West; and son Aaron West. Cory Cole, president of the OCA, presented the family with West’s plaque. West won 853 games, the second most in Oklahoma boys high school history, before passing away in August 2019. Also inducted were Kingfisher High School head football coach Jeff Myers (middle left photo) and former Okarche superintendent and longtime Fairview basketball coach David Glover (middle right photo). Myers is Kingfisher’s all-time winningest football coach who has guided the Jackets to five state title games and a state championship in 17 seasons. Glover won more than 350 games during his 22-year coaching career, 14 of which were spent at Fairview. Two former KHS athletes were also honored for their high school careers. Bijan Cortes (bottom left photo) was named the 2021 OCA Male Athlete of the Year. Riley Myers (bottom right) earned the same honor for 2020, but was unable to be recognized last year when the banquet was canceled due to COVID-19. The banquet was the first of a week of activities hosted by the OCA. That includes the coaches’ clinics that were Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The annual OCA All-State games were also set to be contested at various venues across the Tulsa area throughout the week. The All-State football game Friday was again moved to the OBU campus in Shawnee. [Times-Free Press Staff Photos]
