Kingfisher’s bid to return to the state tournament in golf fell short Wednesday…by five strokes.

The Yellowjackets shot a 328 at Kingfisher Golf Course, good for fourth place in their Class 4A regional.

Only the top three teams advance to state from each of the regionals.

Those teams were Tuttle, which won the regional title with a 318, Woodward with its 319 and Weatherford, which shot a 323.

The state tournament, to be played this Monday and Tuesday at Shangri- La Golf Resort, won’t be without a Yellowjacket. Sophomore Luciano Orozco shot a 7-over-par 77 in the windy conditions.

That tied him for fifth overall and he was one of the four individual qualifi ers from non-qualifying teams to advance to state.

Joining him are Karston Renshaw of Pauls Valley (77), Jeffery Dodson of Bristow (78) and Cody Sizemore of Cleveland (79).

Reid Williams of Woodward was the individual champion with his 72.

Mark Douglas was one of three golfers to shoot a 76, but won second in a three-way playoff.

Weatherford’s Tate Sage ended up third and Perkins-Tryon’s Jayden Drake was fourth. (Note: The top-four placers earn medals and advance to state regardless if they’re on a team that advances. The four additional individual qualifiers are then taken after the top-four medalists.)

Kingfisher’s Myles Harrison just missed the state cut with an 80.

The Jackets also got an 84 from Cale Reagan, an 87 from Paytun Burnham and a 96 from Matthew Mecklenburg.

••• The Class 2A regional held at Boiling Springs Golf Course in Woodward featured one county team and two individuals.

Okarche shot a 390 to place 11th, which fell short of advancing.

However, Hunter Mueggenborg’s 87 was good enough to make him one of the individual qualifiers.

Mueggenborg was 13th overall with his score.

Asher Schieber shot a 93 for the Warriors while Lane Rother fired a 100, Quinn Schneiter a 110 and Parker Schieber a 145.

Cashion’s Ashton Moore and Dover’s Sam Wood played as individuals in the regional.

Both golfers carded a 93, tying them for 33rd out of 92 total golfers.
