Annual golf benefit to aid Meals on Wheels, KCC

A day of fun can provide needed help to hundreds in our community.

That’s the goal of the Kingfisher Golf Association’s annual Benefit Golf Tournament, which enters its ninth year.

This year’s event is May 4 at Kingfisher Golf Course. The four-person scramble will have a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The cost is $200 per team.

As always, 100 percent of the proceeds - and then some - go to benefit a local group or charity.

The beneficiaries this year are Kingfisher Meals on Wheels and Kingfisher Community Collaborative.

Meals on Wheels provides hot, lunchtime meals to the area’s elderly and homebound residents.

Among the several projects of Kingfisher Community Collaborative each year is to provide school supplies to families in need throughout the county.

That project aids about 200 students a year.

“Both of these groups do so much for not only our community, but our entire county,” said Gary Wilson, the course’s club pro and manager.

“We want to do a small part to benefit them and play a fun round of golf in the process. Everyone wins.”

The tournament last year raised more than $4,000.

To date, local golfers have raised nearly $70,000 for local charities or people.

On top of all the entry fees being donated, the KGA and the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association have also chipped in extra donations.

“We know we’re fortunate to be able to come out here and play a game we love,” Wilson said. “If we can do that and benefit some worthy causes, we’re more than happy to keep doing it.”
